Perhaps our most cherished application in the alpine garden is the use of beautiful large boulders, symbolizing the up-thrust granite masses of the Sierra. Although initially labor-intensive to install, once set they become a part of the landscape that requires no water or maintenance, resists fire, and will not perish. As with waterscaping and art placement, boulders and stone outcroppings bring beauty and a sense of natural grace to the alpine garden.
A stone is ingrained with geological and historical memories.
